From the 15th to the 23rd of September 2026, the Modern Composers International Music Festival (ModComFest) returns with a new entry in Barcelona with a special edition dedicated to the music and legacy of Max Richter. Hosted at two of the city’s most iconic venues in the Hospital de Sant Pau and the Palau de la Música Catalana, this latest iteration continues the festival’s mission of championing the finest contemporary composers who have come to define the sound of our age.
Presenting a total of six concerts, ModComFest 2026 will encompass three chamber performances followed by three orchestral evenings, bringing together an international roster of distinguished soloists, as well as the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, who will be performing under the baton of María Florea (Spain). Through these events, ModComFest 2026 shall be engaging in an in-depth exploration of Max Richter’s music in both intimate and symphonic settings, thus offering new and old audiences a chance to discover his works in a different light, while celebrating the power and enduring relevance of contemporary classical music.
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2026 Modern Composers International Festival, an event that is uniquely dedicated to celebrating and promoting contemporary music as a living, deeply human art form.
It is truly an honour for me to be forming part of this year’s edition. Festivals like ModComFest offer a rare opportunity for us to hear music not in isolation, but as part of a wider artistic conversation, between composers, performers, spaces, and of course, audiences.
Dear Friends,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to ModComFest 2026, as this special festival returns for what is promising to be one of our most unique and unforgettable iterations yet!
Over the past years, ModComFest has grown from an ambitious idea into an international platform dedicated to honouring the composers who shape the sound of our time. Each edition has sought not only to present music, but to create context, allowing audiences to experience contemporary creativity in depth and in dialogue with tradition.
