Podgoreanu
Ionuț Podgoreanu is one of the most highly regarded Romanian horn players, internationally recognised for his artistic and pedagogical activity. He began his horn studies in Ploiești under the guidance of Professor Liviu Săvuță and continued his training at the National University of Music in Bucharest with Nicolae Lipoczi, as well as at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Hansjörg Angerer.
He served as principal horn of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra from 2002 to 2005, collaborating with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Claudio Abbado, and Ivan Fischer. Since 2006, he has been principal horn of the Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and since 2014 he has been a professor at the Liceu Conservatory of Music.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with renowned orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Teatro alla Scala, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra (London), Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, MusicAeterna Orchestra, and the KBS Symphony Orchestra of Seoul. He has worked under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Harding, Teodor Currentzis, Simone Young, Cristian Măcelaru, Fabio Luisi, and Myung Whun Chung, among others.
In parallel with his orchestral career, he is a member of the Romanian Chamber Orchestra, founder of the ensemble Mioritique, and principal director of the Simfonics Orchestral Academy of Barcelona.
Awarded First Prize in prestigious international competitions, Ionuț Podgoreanu continues to inspire through his interpretative excellence and dedication to teaching. Between the 2024–2026 seasons, he serves as Artist-in-Residence of the “Banatul” Philharmonic Orchestra of Timișoara, contributing through his solo appearances and high-level artistic collaborations.
