Greaves
He was born in Long Island (New York).
He is currently Assistant Principal Bassoon of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), a position he has held since 2006. He is also a member of the ensemble Barcelona 216 and the Julià Carbonell Symphony Orchestra of the Lands of Lleida.
He previously held the position of Co-Principal Bassoon and Contrabassoon with the Galicia Symphony Orchestra for eight years. During his time with this orchestra, he performed regularly at the Rossini Opera Festival, which takes place annually in Pesaro, Italy.
He served as professor of bassoon and contrabassoon with the Youth Orchestra of Galicia and played an important role in its development and consolidation, the orchestra being considered one of Spain’s leading institutions for orchestral music education.
In 2010, Thomas was Principal Bassoon of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in New Zealand, with which he toured extensively throughout the country.
He has also developed part of his career in the United States, participating in numerous internationally renowned festivals such as Tanglewood (Boston), the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (California), and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut.
He began his musical studies at the BOCES Conservatory in his hometown at the age of nine. At sixteen, he was one of the few young students accepted as a pre-college student at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Professor Mark Goldberg. Two years later, he began his Bachelor of Music degree at Juilliard on a scholarship from the Liberace Foundation, studying with Franck Morelli.
